Yes, your eyes are working correctly. That mask is made of hair. Pisarikova has been using hair as a sculptural medium in her recent shows. She made a small, domed house of hair as well as other pieces. Where did she get all that hair? Her family can only donate limited amounts, so she asked barbers and hairdressers for the hair that they cut off of clients.

Her work has a sense of humour and playfulness. She gets to the heart of human nature and nature itself. You cannot help but smile when you look at her work.

Pisarikova took a beard made of braided hair and draped it over the lap of a stone woman in a park in Toyama prefecture. No more cold stone! She has a blanket to keep her warm and to cover her knees for decency’s sake.
