Gnawing on Something…

Gnawing on something here… Is it worth the effort to apply for a show in another country when shipping to and from the exhibit will cost you an arm and a leg if you are accepted? I was thinking of submitting a drawing to Drawing Discourse (first seen on the Be & Art blog), but I am not sure what I would do if they select my drawing. The deadline is November 16, and the artwork has to be in North Carolina in the United States at the beginning of January. That short window of time means that I would probably have to use Federal Express or some other courier, which is not cheap. Should I save my energy for a solo show in Tokyo? Any opinions? Ideas?

  1. Is Val Britton a juror you would like your work to be seen by? I could easily see her taking a liking to your work. Who do you hope will see your work at this exhibition? Do they attend these kinds of exhibitions?

Definitely compare shipping prices with JPost’s EMS. It is speedy and they do have tracking included in the price. I sent my piece to NY that had a short arrival deadline via EMS and have been happy with it so far.

    1. Now to choose between Celebration and Sun Showers. Sun Showers is a better drawing and is smaller but Celebration has more impact…

  2. Worth it. You would not regret it and in the future you won’t miss the money or think about it you’d just have happy memories.

    1. My mind is already working on an idea for the next project. Also been feeling like a little frog in a big pond since I arrived in Kanto. At least I haven’t gotten lost on the trains in a while! I guess I have to just choose a gallery and dip my toes in the water, eh? Send you a postcard? Play guitar at the opening? 😉
